![]() Ocean Doodles are quick sketches of marine life that I post every Thursday! You can find them on Instagram (sea_bound_goods) or on Facebook (@seaboundgoods). Along with each doodle I will include an unknown or rare fact about each sea creature. The doodles are done with a single color (using watercolor paints) to add emphasis to the dominant color of each distinct creature. I chose watercolors because they give off a much more natural and flow-y "watery" feel. The water splashes are done using a simple technique of more-water-than-paint ratio and an old dog medicine dropper. I suck up the paint and water with the dropper, then let it fall onto the page, allowing the water to go where it will this brings to mind the calming and non-confined space of the ocean. I find that the best way to show the expansion of the sea in these doodles is to flow outside the lines. It feels natural and isn't controlling the paint. I hope each doodle I share with the world brings more joy and knowledge to everyone who sees them. ~Shannon
